What is Acupuncture Really Doing?
Your body is designed to function remarkably well. In Chinese medicine, we believe symptoms aren’t random — they’re signs that something is interfering with the body’s natural ability to regulate, heal, and restore balance. In Western medicine terms, this is called homeostasis.
The goal of acupuncture isn’t to force your body to do something it can’t do. It’s to identify what’s standing in the way of homeostasis; and gently remove those obstacles so that your body can do what it was designed to do…what it knows to do.
Unlike treatments that focus primarily on suppressing symptoms, acupuncture and herbal medicine work to restore communication and balance within the body’s own systems. Ultra fine needles and plants from the earth are the medicine.
The needles are carefully placed at specific points throughout the body; with the ultimate goal being nervous system regulation…or, that shift into a state where healing, and repair can happen naturally.
I think the most important thing to remember here is that acupuncture isn’t doing anything magical. It’s only giving your body what it needs to find a place of homeostasis again; from there, the body knows exactly what to do.
