Acupuncture For Endometriosis

ENDOMETRIOSIS IS A DEBILITATING DIAGNOSIS THAT EFFECTS BETWEEN 5-15% OF WOMEN WORLDWIDE.

Emerging research suggests that Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine (CHM) may be helpful in decreasing endometriosis related symptoms. I have seen this first-hand in my office. While endometriosis is not the easiest condition to cure, it is fairly easy to get the symptoms under control and stop further damage to a women’s delicate reproductive organs.

The most common symptoms for endometriosis is killer cramps…not the typical, ‘pop an Advil’ type of cramps. Those who suffer from this illness often loss multiple days per month, as they are incapacitated by this pelvic pain during their menses and sometimes throughout their cycle.

Under the lens of Chinese Medicine, Endometriosis and other pelvic pain syndromes happen as a result of blocked or deficient meridian channels. The liver, spleen, and kidney channels all pass through the pelvic region, as does the all-important conception vessel. The conception vessel is a deep channel that runs directly down the middle of the front of the body. It plays a major role in…you guessed it: CONCEPTION.

HOW CAN ACUPUNCTURE HELP TO DECREASE THE PELVIC PAIN CAUSED BY ENDOMETRIOSIS?

The answer to this question is found in doing a comprehensive intake for each patient. This will allow you Acupuncturist to find the root cause of YOUR pain, which may be different from someone else with the same symptoms. We use gentle acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, specialized supplements, moxibustion, and/or electro-acupuncture. Each case is different, but that is the general overview of what you can expect. Opening, unblocking, supplementing, moving, and/or clearing the problematic meridians translates into a significant reduction of symptoms for the patient.

HOW IS CHINESE MEDICINE DIFFERENT?

The goal here is always to uncover the root, the reason for your endometriosis. In my experience, there is usually a significant amount of deficiency and blockage in the channels that pass through the lower pelvic region. This can be could be caused by dampness, exogenous cold, unprocessed emotions, stress, or previous trauma. This limits the body’s innate ability to heal. The job of the seasoned Acupuncturist is to clear the pathways so the body can resume the job of maintaining health. Once the channel system is open and moving, the body will do its own healing.

If you or someone you know is struggling with endometriosis or other pelvic pain syndromes, let’s discuss how Chinese medicine may help you.
